A man has told a Nakuru court that he stole his brother's foodstuffs out of hunger to feed his family.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Liz Gicheha, Duncan Maina pleaded guilty to housebreaking charges and admitted to having to feed his two children and wife.

"He is my brother and I did not have food to feed my two kids and wife," said Maina.

He was charged with housebreaking and allegedly stealing 4kgs of wheat flour, 2kgs of sugar, 2kg of ndegu on January 21, 2018, at Naishi village in Njoro sub-county.

His brother Kevin Maina had locked his house and went to church with his family, when they came back they found the accused person with 4kgs of wheat flour at his house within the same compound.

They went to their house only to find their foodstuffs items missing.

He was arrested and taken to Naishi police post.

Maina said he has kids and wife who are depending on him for survival and urged the court to forgive him.

The court ordered a social inquiry report to be availed before a judgment is made.

The case was slated for a mention on Monday next week.
