Two children are fighting for their lives after their father poisoned them before attempting to take his own life in Bogureso area in Kisii County.
The man identified as Wilson Moseti, 35, is said to have forced his two children aged between seven and nine years to drink glass of pesticide after his wife deserted him due to family disputes.
Confirming the incident Bogusero location chief Simon Mbwayo said the man had a fight with his wife two days ago forcing the wife to flee leaving the children at her parents’ home.
Mbwayo said during the Thursday incident the man waylaid the children as they were coming from school and lured them to go and greet their paternal grandmother.
“He lured the children who are pupils at Mosocho Primary school into their grandmother’s house who was not present during the time and forced them to take poison. He threatened to kill them if they defied him.
To make sure that children were dead he hit them with a hammer on the heads before hanging himself with a rope,” said Mbwayo
The Chief said that the children were later rescued by their grandmother who found them unconscious as well as the man who was almost dying save for the villagers who rushed and cut the rope.
“She found her son dangling from the roof top though he wasn’t yet dead and on realizing that the children were still alive she called neighbours who rushed them to the hospital,” he added.
One of the children is admitted at the Kisii county referral hospital while the other one was referred to Tenwek Hospital for specialized treatment.
The man is under police custody at the Kisii County referral hospital as well.
