Residents of Ndumberi, Kiambu Sub county woke up on Thursday to a shocking incident after a 28-year-old man raped his 94-year-old ailing grandmother to death.
Morris Mwangi who has been living with his grandmother for two years now after his parents died is said to have sneaked into her room early that morning and committed the offence.
According to Moses Wainaina who is a milk vendor, Morris was seen worried after the incident and was packing hurriedly to escape.
He explained that as he was opening his business at 6:30 am, he saw the man dragging bags to the gate and looked very nervous.
''Everyone noticed something wasn't right and considering his mental illness,we had to get concerned.He has had a mental problem for years now and has done some weird things in the past out of the illness, but today this was too much,'' said Wainaina.
Diana Muthoni, Morris' neighbour, said that the man was stopped by angry residents who had already found out about the offence he had committed.
She explained that Morris has been the one taking care of the old lady and this incident was a surprise to them.
Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng'etich while confirming the incident said that the police rescued the man from an angry mob that was about to beat him.
He explained that the man is in police custody as investigations have been launched into the matter.
''However I want to confirm that the old lady is confirmed dead and she had scars around her neck an indication that she was strangled on her neck during the incident,'' said the OCPD.
Nge'tich also said that the body of the old lady had been taken to Kiambu District Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem would be carried out and the suspect will be taken to a mental test before being prosecuted.
