A 37-year-old man was on Wednesday charged in a Nakuru Law Court for assault and was remanded after he failed to raise a cash bond of Sh50,000.
The accused stabbed his sister using a kitchen knife and seriously injured her after the two quarrelled over the sharing of money left behind by their mother.
Chief Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki was told that on February 28 this month at Workers Estate, Nakuru town, Benson Mwaura inflicted serous bodily harm to her sister Doris Wambui, 28 over the sharing of Sh3,000 left behind for their upkeep by their mother who was proceeding for medical checkups in Nairobi.
The prosecution desk told the court that the accused had demanded Sh1,500 from the complainant after he declared that he would fend for himself with his share, but the complainant had declined arguing that the money was purely meant for buying food and other kitchen bound needs collectively as directed by their mother.
The court was further told that the accused who consumes illicit drinks had however managed to convince the complainant to give out Sh200 to him that he used to buy illicit brews at a nearby slum area.
He later came back drunk and started quarrelling the complainant before he picked a kitchen knife and stabbed her on the cheek and head.
The magistrate was told that the accused had taken refuge at a local illicit brews drinking den from where he was arrested on Monday morning after committing the offence.
He denied the charges arguing that he had acted in self defence after the complainant armed her self with a blunt metal and threatened to hit him with it.
The accused will remain in remand until the hearing of the case on March 30.
