A young man from Riondong’a village in Kisii has reunited with his family after eight years of search by family members and relatives.
Samuel Ongaga, 28, went missing immediately after completing his A-level studies at Cardinal Otunga high school where he obtained a B+ in his final exams without informing his parents.
However, yesterday, family members and neighbours were astonished when the forgotten man drove home without prior notice.
According to his brother, Wilson Monda, Ongaga ran away from home due to extreme poverty, hence fearing for his further studies.
“He was a good boy but left us perhaps due to the condition of the family. He never informed us where he was going but we were shocked to see him alive today after all these years of intensive search,” he said.
Monda said they were only able to search in places proxy to their home and in their relatives besides depending on information they had expected from Keumbu police station.
“We were not able to search him in distant places due to financial limitations. We also depended on Keumbu police officers for further information,” he said.
But the visibly well-off Ongaga declined to disclose where he had been, only revealing that he had joined Kenyatta University to study banking and finance.
“Let us forget the past and focus on the future. Am now working with National Bank - Kisumu, and I was lucky to go through KU,” he said.
He promised to hold a ceremony in celebration of his mother, Agnes Maticha, who had died while he was away.
