The man, identified as Simon Mwaura argued that illegal plant will be used to extract food supplements.

Mwaura further urged the Assembly to approve at leaat 150,000 other farmers to grow the plant, suggesting that each farmer should be allowed to farm only one acre of bhang.

In a letter dated September 18, the the Chief Executive Director of Hyaquip Inc International further contended that farming marijuana would significantly improve the country's economy since a kilo of cannabis goes for Ksh 1,000.

He asserted that Jomo Kenyatta University had tested extraction of food supplements from marijuana, giving it a clean bill.

“In the view of the above, I on behalf of Hyaquip request your consideration to legalisation, commercialisation and growing of hemp or marijuana dry matter,” the letter said.

“The government should give license to the farmers to grow the important commodity to allow many residents grappling with immune deficiencies to recover and enjoy their lives,” he added.
