A man, 70, was on Thursday jailed for 20 years by a Maralal court after he was found guilty of raping his 19-year-old step daughter.
However, the accused identified as Lesunya Lekirimpoto appealed seeking a reduction of the sentence arguing he is an old man with six children who depend on him. The prosecution opposed the appeal citing the gravity of the offence.
In his appeal, he pleaded with the court saying that he was now reformed.
According to SDE news, the accused raped the mentally ill step daughter and the P3 forms produced before court revealed as much.
“As a father, he breached the trust a child would have towards a parent”, the court ruling read.
“I am in agreement that the sentence meted out to the appellant was commensurate with the offence of rape of a stepdaughter. It is for that reason the appellant’s appeal against sentence is dismissed. The trial court’s sentence is confirmed", it read further.
