A man aged 68 was on Tuesday sentenced to 21 years in prison by a Nakuru court for defilement.

The elderly man was found guilty of defiling a 14-year-old girl at Mukunguku village on August 30.

The prosecution told the court that the accused committed the offence when the minor sought refuge in his house after losing money she had been given by her parents to buy githeri.

The man admitted that he defiled the minor but pleaded with the court to forgive him saying he will never commit the crime again.

Principal magistrate Liz Gicheha said the accused will not be forgiven since the offence was serious.

Gicheha said the sentence will send a warning to elderly people who are used to defile minors.
