A middle-aged-man was on Friday arraigned in a Kiambu Law Court for allegedly assaulting a Police officer in May 7 2015.

Daniel Maingi Kariri, the accused appeared before Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache for allegedly assaulting a Police officer besides resisting to be arrested by the Police offices.

The Prosecution Desk told the Court that in May 7 2015 at around 3pm, the accused who owns a Wines and Spirit in Riabai was approached by two Police officers in his business premise where people were drinking before the stipulated time as required by Mututho Law.

On telling him his mistake, the accused resisted to be handcuffed claiming that the Police officers had other agenda to extort money from him. The accused then tried fighting, beating an officer before escaping.

However in March 14 2015 accused Kariri was arrested in a local pub in Kirigiti at around 6:30pm and charged for the allegations before the Court.

Kariri pleaded guilty and in his mitigation said that he was under the influence of alcohol and he asked the Court to consider the judgement on him as he was a father of one and the child had no mother.

The Principal Magistrate Mochache however sentenced him to six months in prison.
