A man, 40, in Elgeyo Marakwet has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of defiling a 4-year-old girl
The accused, Simon Kauka, committed the offence on January 1 2016 at Koibaben trading center, the court heard.
The prosecution told the Iten magistrate's court that the accused lured the minor into his house after which he committed the offence.
Kauka defended himself saying he was in hospital attending to his wife who had delivered when the crime occurred. He, however, did not present a document before the court to support his defence.
Senior magistrate Hezron Nyaberi ruled that the court was satisfied with the evidence presented by the prosecution.
"The defilement charge against the accused has been proven beyond any doubt," Nyaberi ruled.
"I hereby convict the accused under section 215 of the criminal procedure code. In view of Section 8(a) of the Sexual Offence Act, I order that the accused be sentenced to imprisonment for life," added Nyaberi in his ruling.
