Peter Omollo was sentenced by a Kisumu chief magistrate court after a two year long trial that came to an end on Friday.

Omollo begins his sentence immediately at the Kodiaga prison.

The court heard that Ochieng broke into a house in Milimani Estate and attacked the occupant, Gregory Wario, injuring him in the process. Wario was left hospitalized for a month at the New Nyanza General hospital.

Omollo committed the offence on December 30, 2012, where he is alleged to have stolen a television set, mobile phone and money, with everything totaling to Sh150, 000.

He was arrested after a week at the Kisumu Oile market trying to sell the television set, after the police, who were following leads that a stolen TV set was being sold at the market, cornered him.

After the arrest, Wario positively identified Omollo as the person who attacked him, prompting a search at the suspect’s house, where part of the money and mobile phone were recovered.

In passing her judgment, chief magistrate Thomas Obutu said that evidence presented before her proved that the accused had indeed committed the offence.

In his defence, Omollo told the court that he was just looking for a way of surviving, and the court should be lenient with him.

He was given two weeks to appeal the ruling.
