The High Court in Mombasa on Monday sentenced a 34-year-old chef to death for murdering his fiancé.
Mr Abduba Guyo Wada was facing charges that in the year 2013, he killed his fiancé who was a police officer.
The court heard that the accused committed the offence at the police quarters of the Dog Section in Kisauni where he killed Constable Milga Abdullah.
The court heard that the accused had surrendered himself to the police officers having sustained injuries on his arms claiming that his fiancé had attacked him.
He claimed that he was attacked with a knife following domestic quarrel with his fiancé.
The prosecution however dismissed the claims, saying the accused committed the offence and the witnesses presented before the court have proven he committed the crime.
The accused through his lawyer Mr Gerald Magolo pleaded with the court to release his client saying he has a wife and two children who depend on him.
Lawyer Magolo said his client’s wife does not have a job and she and the children will suffer if his client is jailed.
Judge Martin Muya dismissed the application to release the accused and sentenced him to death saying the prosecution has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The judge however gave him 14 days to appeal the ruling.
