A man, 26, was on Friday sentenced to death by a Kapenguria court for allegedly killing his friend.
The accused Gibson Mnang'at was found guilty of killing Pius Yego on March 4 at Rena village in Cheptulel, Pokot Central constituency, West Pokot county.
The deceased widow told the court that the two were close friends who had not disagreed before the attack.
Mnang'at was accused of threatening to kill Yego's son aged 10 after the boy refused to tell him where his father was.
"He threatened to kill the minor instead of his father. He shot twice at the boy but missed. The minor fled for safety," the widow said.
When she heard gunshots, she moved out to see what was happening only to see Mnang'at walking towards her with a firearm.
She said Mnang'at started firing in the air threatening to kill them after which one bullet ripped through the deceased thigh.
The court heard that Yego was rushed to hospital but died on the way and Mnang'at was arrested and remanded in police custody.
Mnang'at had failed to raise a Sh300,000 cash bail or Sh500,000 bond.
He pleaded with the court Judge Stephen Githinji for a small punishment since he has children to look after.
Githinji however, declined saying Mnang'at intended to kill and must be punished.
"The evidence before the court shows the accused did killed intentionally and he will spend the rest of his life in jail", ruled the Judge.
