A man has been handed a life sentence after a court in Eldoret found him guilty of defilement.
Samuel Kibet Ng'etich was sentenced on Friday and will have to spend the remaining part of his life in jail.
He was handed the life sentence after staying in remand for one year and nine months awaiting Judge Harrison Barasa's ruling.
In his defense, Ng'etich argued that the mother of the 12-year-old girl took the case to court because they had personal differences when in actual sense he did not commit the criminal offense.
"The mother of the girl reported me to police because we had a grudge," Kibet told the court.
He said the grudge began when he refused to give the woman milk as she had requested. The two stayed in one plot in Eldoret town.
Kibet was accused of luring the girl into his house before he forcefully removed her clothes and forced her to go to bed with him in July 2016.
The girl reported the incident to her mother who forwarded the case to police. He was arrested and remanded after he denied the rape charge.
A doctor's medical report after the girl's examination indicated the girl suffered penetration.
