A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of defiling his nine-year-old daughter.
The court heard that the accused, Peter Kipsoi, enticed the minor and dragged her to bed where he defiled her several times at Kipterer village in Salawa, Baringo County.
The complainant, who is the child's mother stated that her husband committed the offence on November 25, 2017, when she had traveled to the neighbouring Elgeyo Marakwet.
The accused is reported to have threatened to discipline the child if she told anyone of the criminal incident.
He, however, pleaded with the court to have leniency on him citing that he is the sole breadwinner of the family and that he was an orphan.
In his ruling on Wednesday, Kabarnet High Court Judge Vienna Ambogo found the accused guilty, arguing that he had failed as a father and had taken advantage on his own daughter.
“The court hereby sentences you to life imprisonment,” stated judge Ambogo.
