A man, aged 40, on Sunday set ablaze his mother’s grass thatched house at Kaptele village, Kapsogut location in Bureti sub county.
According to Kapsogut location chief Elijah Kirui, the suspect Wesley Kirui, a father of five set his mother’s house on fire after they disagreed over a piece of land.
Kirui said the arsonist approached his mother’s house and set it ablaze.
Neighbors rushed to the scene and found the suspect singing praises as the fire spread.
The neighbors said the arsonist claimed that he wanted to teach her mother a lesson for denying him to sell his land.
The chief said the man fled the scene after he saw villagers.
“Efforts by the villagers to arrest him were futile as he fled from the scene,” the chief said.
It is said that the man wanted to sell the land to buy a motorbike.The man's mother said she will not allow her son sell the remaining portion of land since the family will be rendered homeless.
