A 40-year-old man was on Thursday shot dead by armed robbers in Changamwe, Mombasa.Two other people were injured during the robbery incident that occurred in one of the M-Pesa shops in the area.Changamwe DCI boss Francis Wanjau who confirmed the 9.30 pm incident said a gang of four raided the M-Pesa shop in Msufini area, Magongo Mwisho, and ordered a female attendant to give them money.The attended is said to have been shot in the leg after she refused to comply.The gang, however, managed to steal an unknown amount of money from the shop.The 40-year-old man is reported to have called for help after hearing the commotion and gunshots, but was shot in the chest by the robbers who escaped on two motorcycles.Speaking to journalists on Friday, Wanjau said one of the suspects was armed with an AK47 rifle.The police boss further said that bodaboda operators who witnessed the crime tried to barricade the road to prevent the robbers from escaping but one of the gunmen fired a shot hitting one of the bodaboda operators in the leg.The man was taken to Bomu Hospital in Changamwe but died on arrival.“Both the woman and the bodaboda rider are in stable condition. They were rushed to Bomu Hospital and are being attended to,” said Wanjau.“These are few elements who are trying to destabilise businesses and the peace which we have experienced for long. We are hunting them down and we will not relent,” he said, as quoted by Baraka FM.Wanjau said investigations into the matter have been launched, adding that they have also launched a manhunt for the suspects.He further urged members of the public to volunteer information that will help police arrest the four suspects.
