Armed robbers attacked a couple, where the man sustained gunshot wounds, at their home and escaped with Sh 150,000. The couple operate retail and Mpesa shops at Nyamusi market in Nyamira County. According to Lydia Nyakerario, the wife to Kennedy Openda who is also a secondary school teacher, the armed gang struck at 1am as they were sleeping in their house and shot twice at their door before gaining entry. “We were asleep only to be awakened by a bang on our main door and the shooting ,” she said The gang later demanded for money from them and then shot his husband twice in the thigh before taking off leaving the man calling for help from neighbours who did not respond. “My husband was in a very serious pain and our efforts to seek help from our surroundings were futile,” she added, noting that the incident occurred some meters away from an administration police camp. Residents now want the government to ensure there is enough security in the area since similar incidences have happened in the past saying they now fear for their lives as they never got any assistance from the AP post that is nearby. The husband was taken to Nyamira General Hospital and later transferred to Tenwek Hospital in Bomet for further treatment after undergoing an operation to remove the bullet. Police in Nyamira have launched investigation into the matter.
