Four witnesses who testified against Isaack Oginga said he told them that he slapped Consolata Auma twice following a domestic quarrel on May 16 at Rarieda sub-county in Siaya County.

Oginga, they said, reported that Auma, who was pronounced dead at Bondo Referral hospital, had fallen on the bed and was motionless after the two slaps.

George Ochiel, a cousin to the accused, said they had been summoned by the accused that his wife had fainted. Efforts to resuscitate her were futile and they took to the hospital, he told the court presided over by Lady Justice Esther Maina.

The four, who comprised a colleague, a cousin, a beach chairman and an aunt to the accused, said Oginga and his wife were a happy couple and that they were shocked when she died in unclear circumstances.

The hearing will continue on December 3 with three more witnesses.

The accused was remanded.
