A man is recovering at the Samburu county referral hospital after being stabbed in the stomach by an alleged ex-girlfriend.
According to reports, 20-year-old Sammy Ekiru had a quarrel with the girl over a phone memory card before she picked a kitchen knife and attacked him.
While speaking in his hospital bed, Ekiru said the girl attacked him on Friday night as he was leaving a neighbour's house.
He claimed the girl has been following him everywhere since they broke up and has been seeking a reunion.
"This time she followed me saying I had her phone memory card. It was around 7 pm when I was coming out of a neighbors house. She was hiding in a corner when she stabbed me and ran away when she realised she had hurt me," he said.
The girl was later cornered by villagers and taken to Maralal police station.
According to Samburu county referral hospital medical superintendent Robert Nato, the patient suffered liver damage after the knife penetrated deep into his stomach.
After an operation, he said, the patient is responding well.
"The patient is under close monitoring, he is responding well to treatment but we would refer him to Nairobi if he will not have improved by Monday," said Nato.
