A middle-aged man on Sunday night stabbed another man to death after a heated argument ensued between them while consuming alcohol at a local bar in Kenyenya Kisii County.
A bar attendant who declined to be named said the suspect identified as Mochoge was angered when the victim asked him to pay the alcohol bill.
“The suspect has always been a parasite who only drinks what other people have bought. The victim asked him to pay the alcohol bill that they had consumed but the suspect got angry, took a knife he was hiding in his coat and stabbed the victim on the chest killing him on spot,” said the bar attendant.
He added that the suspect tried to escape after committing the crime but he was arrested by Nyumba Kumi officials who surrendered him to police officers.
"The suspect tried to escape but luckily he was arrested by Nyumba Kumi officials who were on patrol who surrendered him to police,” added the bar attendant.
Residents threatened to lynch the suspect if police release him.
Nicholas Ndwiga, a police officer attached to Kenyenya said the suspect will be arraigned at Kisii Law Courts on Wednesday to be charged with the murder.
“Charge sheets are being prepared as police complete investigations before the suspect will be taken to court on Wednesday to face murder charges,” said the officer.
The deceased body is lying at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
