The man who stabbed a matatu driver’s hand yesterday night in Wamwangi over Sh20 has been jailed at Gatundu Police Station.
According to area chief Joseph Njiraini, the driver had been asking the man to pay the fare. The man refused to pay and stabbed him instead.
"The man is a very well known criminal and we suspect he was up to no good,” said Njiraini.
Njiraini has added that the man was almost lynched by irate residents but was saved by the police who arrived in time.
"We are fed up by his actions. He thinks we live in a bush where there are no laws. Most matatu people know him here and fear him for he can do anything,” John Gitau, the matatu's conductor said.
"The wages of sin is death. That is what could have gotten him were it not for the Police,” said Paul Waweru, a resident.
The OCS Gatundu Police Station has confirmed the incident saying that once investigations were complete, the man would be taken to court soon to answer to the charges.
