A 34 year old man died from injuries sustained after his bicycle was hit by a speeding lorry on Wednesday night.
Speaking to Mbembani area Chief Josphat Silah, he stated the man had been identified as a resident of Ikaatini.
“When I was alerted by residents made a phone call to the OCPD and he made a quick response by sending police officers from Matuu police station. However the man who has died has been recognised as a resident of IKaatini village.” Said Silah
Yatta Sub-County OCPD Edward Kipsang Chagat has confirmed the accident that happened on the road leading from Matuu to Mbembani.
“The lorry was carrying sand from Mbembani areas headed to Matuu while the man was headed to Mbembani from Matuu town centre when the two collided head on. The incident happened at around 7:30 p.m and the police were alerted and they rushed to the scene took the severely injured person to Matuu level 4 Hospital but unfortunately was pronounced dead on arrival.” Said Chagat
Chagat further stated that the lorry in question had been found deserted a few meters for the accident scene but the driver has since escaped but police officers from Matuu police station are searching for him.
The body of the man has been taken to Matuu nursing home mortuary while the lorry together with the bicycle wreckage have been dragged to Matuu police station as investigations on the incident begin
