Kisii town chief has summoned has summoned a man for allegedly battering his 10-year-old daughter in separate occasions since last year. On Thursday, administrative chief Richard Orina said the child was rescued by concerned residents before the man, Kelvin Ocharo and his wife Ruth Ocharo left the town unnoticed. He said the victim, a class five pupil at Daraja Mbili primary, was under his custody after having received treatment in a nearby dispensary. “I received a child who was badly injured almost all over her body. I took her to Oresi District hospital for treatment and she seems to be recovering from the incident. She is traumatised and hope she will recover soon,” he said. He said preliminary investigation showed the child might have been born out of wedlock and this may have precipitated constant squabbles between the couple. “This child might have been born out of wedlock and this is why she was mistreated badly by the father. It seems the mother tolerated the incident in order to save her marriage,” Orina said. The chief has issued a summon to close friends of Ocharo, urging him to surrender before he is pursued by authorities. “He is a well-known man here and I have spoken with his peers. I hope he will avail himself so that we can handle the case before we take stern actions against him,” he said.
