A middle-aged-man suspected to have killed his grandmother in Nthangathi Location, Masinga sub-county in Machakos County has been attacked by area residents who beat him uncontrollably.
The man who is alleged to have stolen money from the old woman before killing her was found hiding in a granary by residents who have been searching for him the whole night.
Nthangathini Sub-Chief Bonface Muthama had a hard time persuading the residents not to kill the accused to make it easy for Police investigations.
Were it not for the sub-chief’s intervention, the angry residents would have killed the suspect who was trying to defend himself from arrest using a knife.
Confirming the incident, Sub-Chief Muthama said that they spent the whole night looking for the man whom together with his friend are believed to have killed the grandmother before stealing Sh10,000 from her.
“We spent the whole of Monday night searching for him until this morning ween we found him hiding in the grandmother’s granary…,” said Sub-Chief Muthama.
Muthama said that he will not allow search people in his area to continue terrorising residents and urged the State to take a stern action to people violating the law in the area.
The suspect has been taken to Kikumini Police Station in Masinga as further investigations are underway. He is later expected to be arraigned in Court.
