A middle aged man sustained serious injuries after he was involved in road accident along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Monday.

The unidentified driver got injured after the lorry he was driving rammed into a good's trailer that was in front at DEVKI Steel Plant Company in Athi River town.

It took efforts of well-wishers and occupants of the trailer to remove him from the driver's seat as the vehicle's cabin was seriously damaged.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to the press at the scene said the accident occurred after the trailer in front of the lorry stopped abruptly making the lorry to hit it from behind.

They said driver of the trailer had applied emergency brakes to avoid hitting a private car that entering the main Highway from Athi River town.

"The trailer's driver was avoiding to hit a private car which swiftly emerged from Athi River town which to the Highway without checking, the car sped off," said an eye witness.

The lorry is said to have been transporting Gypsum stones from Sultan Hamud to a company based in Athi River when the incident occurred.

The victim was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River for medication as the vehicles were towed to Athi River Police Station.
