Director for Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Mr John Wambua, who confirmed the incident, said the man was in the company of another man when they were attacked by a buffalo in Malindi ya Ngwena village in the outskirts of Hola town.

Mr Wambua said the man sustained injuries in his private parts while the other man managed to escape unhurt.

Mr Wambua said the two had just started fishing along river Tana when the buffalo attacked them.

The director said the victim was rushed to Hola sub-county hospital for treatment following the ordeal that almost cost him his life.

He further said they have launched investigations into the incident to establish if the victim was attacked by a buffalo before KWS compensates him.

Mr Wambua said he had deployed officers to the ground to conduct the investigation adding that such cases were being fuelled by poaching.

“I have sent an officer on the ground to establish whether their allegations are true before preparing reports for compensation,”

“But up to now the report we are relying on is their allegations of being attacked when fishing across river Tana,” said the KWS director as quoted by Baraka FM.

Cases of Human-Wildlife conflict in Tana River are on the rise and just recently a child died and two others went missing after the canoe they were using to cross Tana River capsized after being knocked by a hippopotamus.
