A 25-year-old man will spend the next five years in prison for stealing his father's cow.
Samuel Maina was on Wednesday found guilty of stealing the animal by Nakuru law courts.
Maina pleaded guilty of stealing the cow worth Sh75 000 before Nakuru Principal Magistrate Victor Wakumile.
The prosecution told the court that the accused was intercepted on May 15 at Mauche area in Njoro by anti-stock theft.
The court was further told that he had attempted to sell the cow for Sh25 000.
The prosecutor further told the court that Maina had earlier on been arrested but had disappeared with handcuffs from Mauche Police Post. He was later spotted by police and rearrested.
His father, Peter Miring’u wanted him disciplined heavily.
“I request the court to imprison him two years since he has made me incur heavy losses,” said Miringu.
According to the father, Maina escaped being lynched by an angry mob but was rescued by a local chief James Kariuki.
The magistrate gave him 14 days to appeal the sentence.
