A 32-year-old man will languish in prison for the rest of his life after he was found guilty of defiling an eight-year old girl. Martin Muikia was convicted by the Thika Principal Magistrate Stephen Mbugi of defiling the minor on May 9, this year at Mathithi sub-location of Gatundu south Sub-County. The court was told that the accused sent the girl to his house ostensibly to fetch a rope but he followed and defiled her. The girl’s brother is said to have become suspicious and followed the accused. He witnessed the traumatising act visited on his sister by peeping through the door. He then raised the alarm and members of the public apprehended the suspect and handed him to the police. In mitigation, Muikia pleaded with the court to be lenient saying he was the sole breadwinner of his family. But the magistrate after considering the circumstances of the offence said he did not have an option but to prefer the prescribed sentence according to the law.
