A man was on Friday sentenced to nine months imprisonment after being found guilty of stealing a neighbour's goat.
Hezron Ogwae was found guilty by Kisumu Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu for the offence he is alleged to have committed on the April 13, 2015 in Otongolo.
During the hearing, the court heart that the accused person stole the goat from his neighbour Beatrice Achieng and sold it to a local butcher.
While reading the sentence, Judge Obutu said the accused person was in deed guilty going by the evidence provided before the court.
"I have clearly reviewed the evidence and there is no doubt that the accused person is guilty. Therefore he needs to be put away to pay for the offence he committed," said Obutu.
Ogwae had earlier asked the court for leniency as he took the goat to settle a debt.
"I took the goat because the accused owed me some money and she had refused to pay me as we had agree, the court should look into that before sentencing me," said Ogwae.
However Obutu said that the issue had not been raised during g the hearing, and no matter the circumstances taking one's property without permission is an offence.
