A 35 year-old man in Kimasaro village, Nyamira County, who is suspected to be a thief was shot on the leg after he threatened police with a machete to escape arrest. According to the Nyamaiya Location Chief, Duncan Moriasi, the suspect whose name is Peter Manyansa has been causing unrest among area residents by stealing from them. “The residents were angered and decided to chase him up to his home where he got into the house and locked himself from the inside,” said Moriasi. The chief said that when police came, the suspect came out with a machete and tried to attack the officers, forcing one of them to shoot him on the leg. He said that stolen property was found in his house among them one cow that the suspect had stolen, adding that they were still looking for another suspect that escaped and other stolen property. “We have found a lot of stolen things in his house but the focus is now on getting his partners before taking them to court,” said the Chief. The suspect is however receiving treatment at the Nyamira District hospital as he waits to be taken to court.
