A middle aged man was on Friday sentenced to serve 30 years in prison after he was found guilty of defiling a 9 year-old girl.
While reading the judgement, Kisumu’s Winam Resident Magistrate Paul Ouko condemned the act terming is ‘illogical’.
“It defies logic that a grown up man can do such an act to a small innocent girl who does not understand what is going on. The evidence presented before this court proves that the accused really committed the offence. This court therefore finds him guilty as charged,” said Ouko.
Peter Marika who is said have committed the offence has been languishing in remand prison ever since the trial began last year March, as the court denied him bail.
In his defence, Marika asked the court to forgive him for the offence he committed in January 2014, noting it was the devil who prompted him to defile the minor.
During earlier hearings, the court heard that Marika waylaid her victim as she returned home from school where he enticed her with sweets before taking her to his house where he defiled her.
Both are residents of Milimani in Kisumu County. The mother of the child discovered that her daughter had been defiled when she complained of pains in her private parts.
Marika was arrested two days later while trying to escape. He will start his sentence immediately.
