Douglas Nyakundi, the man who ‘knows’ how Jacob Juma was killed has been ordered to undergo a mental test.

The court has directed Nyakundi to be taken to either Mathari or Kenyatta National Hospital for the assessment.

Nyakundi last week claimed that the murder of businessman Jacob Juma was planned at the Office of the Deputy President.

The court order came after the accused asked that his plea is deferred to allow police investigate the matter afresh.

Nyakundi claims that his boss gave him a confession letter to deliver to activist Boniface Mwangi detailing how Juma’s murder was planned and executed.

In a new affidavit that may deal a blow to Mwangi’s case, Nyakundi says he was coached by the activist on what to say.

Nyakundi said he wanted five more days for police to investigate the matter again because there was new evidence he needed to give.

State prosecutor, Duncan Ondimu, applied for orders to have Nyakundi undergo a mental evaluation to ascertain his status before he is charged.

On December 1, Nyakundi claimed to be a messenger in the DP William Ruto’s office. He said that he had been sent to Mwangi by his boss, a Mr Rono.

Details of how Juma’s murder was planned were contained in a letter titled Self Confession. The letter also mentioned the people who shot the controversial businessman.

Nyakundi was arrested on Wednesday, November 30, and had demanded that Mwangi deposit an unspecified amount of money in his bank account. The money was to enable the Mr Rono to give more details for Mwangi to use in the defamation case Deputy President William Ruto has filed against him.

Also, the man who killed Juma would be introduced.

Nyakundi had also, allegedly, informed Mwangi that he had information that the activist was to be killed through a stage-managed traffic road accident.

A Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) investigator Philip Mwangi, said police needed more time to ascertain if the two men work at the Office of the Deputy President.

The case will be mentioned on December 21, 2016.
