A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in jail by the Naivasha court after he was caught with dog meat packed in gunnies.
Dickson Munala pleaded guilty to having the meat at Maili Mbili before Naivasha senior principal magistrate Peter Gesora.
The prosecution told the court that on August 5 this year at Maili Mbili area of Naivasha, the accused was caught skinning the dog that had been knocked down by a train on Tuesday morning.
Earlier on, he claimed that he was Rwandese and hence, could not eat dog meat.
In his statement, he told the packed court that he was going to work as usual when he came across the dead animal and embarked on skinning it, thinking it was a goat.
Members of the public stumbled on him packing the pieces into a bag and immediately informed the police. The accused, who was armed with a panga and an axe, explained that he was going to look for firewood to prepare his meal.
Munala sought leniency, saying he was a charcoal and timber dealer who was the sole breadwinner for his family.
