Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago is now a happy man, after securing the gubernatorial Jubilee Party ticket, amid tight competition.

Mandago faced tight competition from wealthy businessman, Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprop, alias Buzeki, as he hoped to beat the first time governor of the county popularly known as 'Home of the Champions'.

In the exercise held Tuesday 25, April, 2017, and preliminary results announced, Thursday, Mandago garnered 134,870 votes against Buzeki's 63,890 votes.

Even before the official results were declared official, Mandago and his supporters thronged Eldoret streets, celebrating, saying he knew the people of Uasin Gishu would not let him down.

"If you deliver, your people will never let you down. Thanks so much the people of Uasin Gishu for this resounding victory. I will still work for you,'' he said.

Buzeki has however disputed the victory, saying most of his voters were not allowed to vote.
