Speaking at the county offices when he met county nurses and doctors’ representatives on friday, Governor Mandago urged elected and nominated leaders to weigh what they say to avoid words or phrases that could trigger animosity among communities in the county.

Mandago said that the county has enjoyed peace for the past years and that it will not allow leaders or any other persons to interfere with the current peaceful existence.

“I ask Uasin Gishu leaders and residents to take upon the responsibility of preaching unity peace and harmony instead of hate among people,” said Mandago.

Governor Mandago said that his government has taken the bold step of bringing communities in the region together adding that the county is a cosmopolitan county and urged other communities to feel free and safe to invest in the region.

He said that the county through the Youth Affairs and Sports department has started campaigns aimed at preaching unity among the area residents. Mandago said that the peace campaigns are being spear head by youths and professional groups.

He also cautioned leaders against starting early political campaigns noting that they will interfere with service delivery.

“We still have two years before the 2017 general election and therefore, I do not see the need of starting premature campaigns which will only cause tension among rival groups,” added Mandago.

Meanwhile, the governor has urged leaders from cattle rustling prone areas to work tirelessly and restored order which is no longer in those areas.

He said that cattle rustling and inter-community violence is painting the region negatively and keeping investors away.

Mandago urged other leaders across the country to intervene and come with solutions to end cattle rustling and inter-community violence.
