Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago has said the construction of the southern bypass will kick off this month.
The project, worth Sh5.1 billion shillings will help reduce congestion in Eldoret town, which normally causes heavy snarl-up.
Speaking on Wednesday, the governor said the contractors were already on the ground, and the groundwork will begin next week.
“This is a long-awaited project ... we are happy it will be done soon so we can decongest Eldoret town,” he said as quoted by the star.
The road project, which was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto will run from Ngeria along Eldoret-Nairobi road and through the Eldoret International Airport.
“We have also put up walkways for pedestrians along all key highways. Motorists and riders should not be found using these walkways,” he added.
He warned all those who sit on road reserves, saying they will be forced out since the government had given them enough time to vacate.
“We give such notices early enough. They should not ignore them and then blame the county when we force them out."
The county boss further sounded a warning to all those involved in and grabbing, saying they will be brought to book.
