Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has been slammed over the remarks he made about Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Mandago who had been summoned to the CID headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday maintained that Matiang’i was unfit to hold the education docket, and even threatened to compel the top leadership to sack him.
But in a quick rejoinder, Esise MCA Teresa Nyaanga accused Mandago of interfering with the management of schools and demanded that he ‘keeps’ off antagonising the minister.
“It’s quite unfortunate that a governor can demean a servant who has been hardworking and even accusing him of infernos in our schools. That was unprofessional and it’s important that he apologises for interfering with the education sector,” she said.
Nyaanga added: “the Cabinet secretary made the appointment in accordance with the law and he should not be subjected to criticisms whatsoever. I strongly condemn the governor for even going to an extent of insulting technocrats in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.”
She also warned politicians against ethnicising appointments in public institutions saying the vice was likely to escalate if it would not be cautiously handled.
“We are all against tribal appointments and it’s good that Matiangi did not appoint a Kisii. As politicians, we should keep off politics from public institutions,” she said.
