Mandago dismissed claims that the relocation of the hawkers is political.

“The CBD is crowded by hawkers. They should be moved out so that we can make good plans in town and reorganize it and the move is in line the Physical Planning Act,” he said.

The vocal county boss said no community is being targeted to be removed from town as claimed.

“We have challenges in planning of the town. Hawkers will be relocated to other markets which we have used over Sh100 million to construct so that we can be able to start expanding the town,” he noted.

The governor urged the hawkers to accept to relocate noting that unnecessary fights with county askaris are illegal and unacceptable.

He stated that investors are shying away from putting their money in Eldoret town because of the hawkers menace.

“We need more investors to invest in the town. Wrangles between the hawkers and county askaris has kept off investors from the town,” he said.

Mandago was speaking in Eldoret town on Monday.
