Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has condemned the National Cereals and Produce (NCPB) Managing Director Newton Terer for inefficiency and sleeping on the job.
Mandago claimed that the MD only shows up at the Eldoret NCPB depot accompanied by either the deputy president William Ruto or Agriculture CS.“I want the NCPB MD to get serious and always be showing up at the depot to help in solving farmers grievances. He was appointed to serve farmers and not to sit at the head office in Nairobi,” said the Jubilee governor at the Eldoret NCPB depot, Wednesday.“As a leader from this region, I am not happy with the way he conducts his duties. I am the one who addresses farmers’ problems and it’s sad that even some farmers don’t know him because he is nowhere to be seen. He should be at the grassroots solving farmer’s issues,” he added.Farmers in the county have been complaining about several issues among them the manner in which NCPB was handling the purchase of maize and at most times their concerns are never addressed as expected.Currently, they are up in arms over delays in payments for their delivered maize but the Agriculture CS recently assured that they will be paid as soon as possible after the government released Sh1 billion to facilitate the pay.
