Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago is in a 10-member committee on national reconciliation, dialogue and healing that was constituted on Thursday by the Council of Governors (CoG).
The committee that seeks to quell political temperatures following the controversial October 26 repeat presidential election is headed by the CoG chairman, Turkana governor Josphat Nanok.
"As Governors, our position is that Kenya must remain united and cohesive for this and future generations. We want peace, unity, and cohesion. We will not stand by as the country gets torn apart by ethnicity and tribal politics," CoG tweeted on their official account as quoted by the Star.
Governors from both Jubilee and NASA are included in the committee. The other members of the committee are governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Salim Mvurya, Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), and Joyce Laboso(Bomet), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua) and Cornel Rasanga (Siaya).
Just a day before the swearing in of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mandago, a vocal Jubilee governor asked the head of state to consider inviting opposition leader Raila Odinga for dialogue at the statehouse.
“We were saying that the only dialogue that will happen between us and the opposition is after elections and now that that is beyond us its time you (Kenyatta) invited Raila for a cup of tea and listen to what he has to say,” Mandago when he flagged off a fleet of buses transporting Jubilee supporters to Nairobi for the swearing-in ceremony.
“Whatever the opposition will bring on the table, anything that can be implemented for the good of the country should be worked on but those issues that will be impossible them they (NASA) will have to wait until 2022 to implement them if they will be lucky,” he added.
