Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has defended the move by the National government to import 100 doctors from Cuba.
Mandago said this will help improve the provision of quality healthcare to a majority of Kenyans.
“I 100 percent support the national government's move since it will improve the medical services in the country and also Kenyans will get specialized health services at their doorsteps such as ontology, nephrology, and dermatology instead of traveling abroad,” said Mandago in Eldoret town, Monday.
The Jubilee governor noted that the Cuban doctors are the best thus will offer quality service and also build expertise and capacity at the grassroots level four and level five hospitals.
“Kenyans doctors should not be afraid that the Cuban doctors will replace them since this is not true. They will only offer specialized services which our doctors cannot provide,” said Mandago
He further reiterated that health institutions cannot work alone but need collaborations with other doctors to improve..
Mandago also revealed that Uasin Gishu county will receive two Cuban doctors who will be stationed at Burnt Forest and Ziwa Sub County hospitals.
The County chief noted that the doctors will be moving around in all the 121 health facilities in the county to offer their specialized services.
