A section of Rift Valley leaders have mourned the death of former cabinet minister Nicholas Biwott.
According to a source from his family, Biwott died at his Kileleshwa home in Nairobi, Tuesday morning, July 11, 2017 after a long illness.
Uasin Gishu county governor Jackson Mandago described Biwott’s death as a big loss to the Rift Valley region.
“On my behalf and the people of Uasin Gishu county where the honourable Nicholas Biwott was a resident and a serious investor, I want to pass a condolence message to the family, friends and relatives and the residents of Uasin Gishu county and Elgeyo Marakwet,” Mandago told journalists at the Lee funeral home, Tuesday.
“Nicholas was among those leaders who gave guidance to those of us who were young on how to conduct ourselves and also how to work for the county and serve our people. As a county we have lost one of our political elders. And it is indeed a big loss for us,” he added.
Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter expressed sorrow following the demise of Biwott and other two leaders GG Kariuki and Joseph Nkaissery who died in a span of a short time within the Rift Valley region.
“It is sad indeed we as the Rift valley region we have lost three prominent personalities within a very short period,” said Keter.
“I want to say pole to the entire family, relatives and friends and all the residents of Uasin Gishu and El. He made a difference in our lives as young leadership and he had touched so many people in terms of direct supporting them paying school fees and supporting programs and many other things,” he added.
“As a Jubilee party and as a coalition it is sad because the three people that we have lost are dear to us,” Keter noted.
