Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago and the Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday sharply differed over how funds allocated to devolved units are being utilized.
Murkomen who is the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator had accused the county bosses of hijacking the budget-making process and running away from accountability.
But in response, Mandago told off the vocal Senato insisting that governors have always followed the law in the budget-making process.
He also noted that they (governors) are ready to account for funds they spent and honor Senate summons for purposes of accountability and transparency.
“We have no fear to be accountable, the only thing we are asking those in the position of summoning is not to do it with an ulterior motive and this is why some Senators ended up to be governors and we welcome them,” said Mandago.
“It is important that we make things straight so that people know what is happening and the processes that we use to allocate resources. Murkomen is my neighbor and he knows what I have done, he should go and speak with Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet governor) instead of coming to lecture everybody here,” he added.
The two spoke during the first day of the fifth devolution conference at the Kakamega High School in Kakamega county.
