The county government of Uasin Gishu has offered to fund purchase and installation of five Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret town.
This is in what the area Governor Jackson Mandago says will help ease congestion at the second largest public health facility in the country.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Sunday, Mandago further said his administration has invested heavily in equipping county health facilities across the county in a move that will significantly reduce the high number of patients flocking the referral hospital for basic health facilities.
The Jubilee governor further said the Hospital may soon be offering only referral services as devolved units in the region have been working on improving their health facilities.
“We’ve seen an influx of patients to MTRH because we didn’t have sufficiently equipped hospitals but Trans Nzoia is building its own referral Hospital same as Elgeyo Marakwet and we also have burnt forest Sub-county hospital which can now offer basic theatre services and we believe soon the congestion issue will be a thing of the past,” said Mandago.
“MTRH is still a key hospital to offer emergency services in this region and this is why as a county we have offered to give them five beds to enhance their capacity,” he added.
Eldoret referral Hospital is depended upon by millions of locals living in the North Rift region with patients even coming from as far as South Sudan and Uganda.
