Stakeholders in the Environment sector have been challenged to come up with mechanisms that will enhance forest conservation in the country.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago further says communities living near forests should be involved in the conservation programs.
Speaking in Eldoret town during a meeting with various environment stakeholders, Mandago expressed concerns over high rate of forest degradation in the country.
The governor warned that is appropriate action is not taken as soon as possible, the country might be turned into a desert.
"We have to conserve the forests if we want to live or we destroy and allow ourselves to starve because it's through the forests that we have rains which enables us to engage in farming," Mandago noted.
"All stakeholders must work together and reach a solution to the best way to conserve our forests for the future generations," he added.
