The governor said that the county government lacked enough funds to deal with the problems facing farmers.

"The things farmers have been complaining about here are true. It is either we shall have food in this country or we shall not have food," said Mr. Mandago.

According to Mr. Mandago, fall armyworms is the problem facing farmers in the North Rift region apart from subsidized fertilizer which is also a big challenge.

"There was this fall armyworm outbreak last year and we used our funds as a county but we don't have enough funds for emergencies. As we talk now fall armyworm have invaded Turbo sub-county in great numbers. The 50 million remaining as part of the budget that has been set aside is not going to be enough," he added.

Speaking to North Rift farmers and MPs in Eldoret, the governor warned the government to be ready for hunger if they won't address problems facing farmers.

"So if the ministry of education won't wake and address issues of the farmers then we have to be ready for hunger as a nation because there is no option B," warned Mr. Mandago.
