The African Union (AU) has been criticised for remaining silent over ongoing slave trade in Libya.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said it was disturbing that since an exposé over the outdated trade, AU has never come out to give its stand on the matter.
The Jubilee allied governor said it was the time the AU leadership stood out and condemned such inhumane acts.
"Slave trade in Libya has been widely reported across the globe but I am surprised that the African Union has remained mute about this sad and sorry state," Mandago said in Eldoret, Tuesday.
"When you see people in the 21st century still being subjected to slave trade then you don't expect to wait until western counties speak about it. It's time AU acted accordingly," he added.
There have been reports of violation of the rights of African migrants who are unlawfully detained, abused and auctioned off as labourers in Libya, an act that constitutes modern-day slavery.
