Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has expressed opposition to a proposal by the National Super Alliance (NASA) chief Raila Odinga to form a third layer of government.
Mandago says as Council of Governors (CoG), they will not accept any attempts to further devolve system of government going up by introducing regional government.
Speaking in Eldoret town, the vocal Jubilee governor insisted that if there will be need to change the current system of governance, it should be by further devolving services to sub-county and ward levels.
The Jubilee governor noted that structures should be put in place to allow locals access key government services like procurement.
“As governors, the only proposal we can entertain is if we further devolve key services even closer to mwananchi and not what we are being told about regional governments,” noted Mandago.
“What we need now is to devolve services like procurement so those people in far-flung areas like Ziwa can get those services at the ward level,” he added.
This comes after the opposition leader proposed that the country adopts a three-tier system of government that will see 14 new regions established on top of the existing 47 counties and the national government.
