The County Government of Uasin Gishu has set aside a total of Sh315 million to be disbursed to Cooperatives societies in form of loans.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago disclosed this in Eldoret during the Annual General Meeting for Kokwatai Savings and Cooperatives Society.
He also added that Cooperatives and Enterprise Development is one of his flagship projects in his second and final term in office.
He noted that increasing money in circulation is one effective way of improving the livelihoods of the residents.
Mandago promised to work round the clock to make it happen and further disclosed that his administration has been able to revive more than 40 cooperative societies.
“I want to thank my officers for the work they have done since 2013 to date. We have revived so many cooperatives societies that were dead but I am glad that today they have complied with the law,” said Governor Mandago.
He challenged savings and cooperatives societies to come forward and borrow the available funds from his administration saying priorities change with time.
Governor Mandago, who is a shareholder of Kokwatai Investment, asked cooperatives to align their investment goals with the National Governments “Big Four” agendas citing that those were the areas the government will channel more resources into.
He also called upon members of the cooperatives to support their leaders in their quest to doing more business as deemed right.
